October 24th, 2022 by

With more rugged styling, advanced driver assistance technology, and a wide range of trims and features, the 2023 GMC Terrain elevates the compact crossover segment to a new level. Apart from a road-trip-worthy ride, the Terrain is roomy and relaxing, it also offers a user-friendly, intuitive infotainment screen. The question becomes: which trim level has what you need? Check out this guide to the 2023 GMC Terrain trim levels.

2023 GMC Terrain Trim Packages

The 2023 GMC Terrain comes in four trims: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The SLE may start things off as the most affordable model, but it also has a huge range of optional packages, many of which come standard on the SLT. The AT4 and Denali are further-enhanced models building off the Terrain SLT. Let’s take a more detailed look at each trim. Feel free to browse our new Buick and GMC inventory to see what’s available.

2023 GMC Terrain SLE

The SLE has 17-inch wheels, heated power side mirrors, tinted rear privacy glass, an acoustic windshield, LED taillights, and LED headlights with delay and automatic on/off capabilities. It’s the only trim level with premium cloth instead of perforated leather seat upholstery. Notable interior features include a fold-flat front passenger seat, real aluminum trim pieces, six audio speakers with Active Noise Cancelation, and a 7-inch touch screen with convenient icons and fast response times.

The 2023 Terrain SLE has climate control vents in the rear to keep all passengers equally comfortable. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, and the second row has two USB charge ports. The cargo bay also has a 12-volt outlet, great for anything from camping night lights to an in-car vacuum cleaner.

As for safety equipment, the SLE comes with pedestrian-detecting low-speed automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and a following-distance indicator. Through the optional Pro Safety Plus package and others, the Terrain SLE can add various combinations of rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning, a safety-alert seat, and adaptive cruise control. A Driver Confidence package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, roof rack side rails, heated front seats, and a power-lumbar eight-way driver’s seat.

You can find 2023 Terrain SLE models with a Wi-Fi hotspot and OnStar emergency support and roadside assistance, or you could get some of these features added later. You can swap the 7-inch touch screen for an 8-inch screen with navigation, an SD card reader, an HD rearview camera, and an enhanced driver information screen. A Hit the Road equipment package adds a roof rack and molded side steps. Last but not least, the GMC Terrain SLE also offers a rare Elevation Edition, adding dark body accents and 19-inch wheels.

2023 GMC Terrain SLT

Everything from the SLE Driver Convenience package is included with the SLT, but you’ll get perforated leather seating. The second trim level also adds a six-way power passenger seat with power lumbar support, an eight-way power driver seat with two-way power lumbar support, interior accent lighting, and memorized front seat settings. Fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch optional), and roof rack side rails are also standard.

Aside from the other options from the SLE that weren’t made standard equipment, the SLT offers a tech package with a head-up display, an HD surround-view monitor, and front and rear park sensors. There’s also an Infotainment II group, adding a seven-speaker audio system and navigation.

2023 GMC Terrain AT4

The AT4 trim level builds off the SLT, but with more rugged styling and off-roading features. It rides on 17-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels and adds a unique AT4 grille and badge, a skid plate, black chrome exterior accents and finishing, and glistening black roof rails. Other highlights include the available SkyScape sunroof and heated leather-appointed front seats.

The AT4 and SLT have the same optional packages to choose from. Moving up to the AT4 or Denali will automatically upgrade you to all-wheel drive. The included Traction Select system on the AT4 has an off-road mode to increase traction on raw dirt, sand, and more.

2023 GMC Terrain Denali

Much of the SLT’s equipment, including the Terrain Pro Safety package, all get added to the GMC Terrain Denali. The exterior makes a powerful impression, with the multidimensional Denali Grille, heated and power-adjustable mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, and 19-inch bright machined aluminum wheels, and these are just a few parts of many exterior adjustments. Other notable standard features on the Denali include heated second-row outboard seats and an 8-inch driver information center screen.

You and your passengers will love how the optional seat ventilation system breathes cool air through the French-stitched perforated leather. Just grab the Denali Premium Package, which also adds adaptive cruise control, heated rear seats, the HD surround-vision camera, and a nearly autonomous self-parking system. Perhaps the most exciting upgrade available is the Denali Black Diamond Edition, with a panoramic sunroof, special 19-inch wheels, and an After Midnight paint finish.

What Is the Difference Between a Terrain SLE and SLT?

The SLT adds almost all features that are optional on the SLE. Some features, like a heated steering wheel and fog lights, appear only on the SLT and higher. The SLT, AT4, or Denali are also worth it if you want leather seating. Here are a few key points that help many drivers around Boardman, Ohio, decide which trim they should get:

  • All trim levels use the same engine and transmission.
  • The SLT is a big upgrade that adds nearly all of the SLE’s optional equipment.
  • The AT4 adds many luxuries on top of the SLT but is also an off-roading trim.
  • The Denali is the highest standard of GMC luxury and traditional style.
